It was at this time that he went to work for the prestigious Beverly Hills Prosthetics and Orthotics. In 2003, Derrick finished his post-graduate medical program through Northwestern University and started his residency with Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics in Medford.
By 2006 he had finished his residency and passed his boards to become a Certified Prosthetist Orthoist. In 2007, Derrick became a partner in the Grants Pass Spectrum office and that same year spearheaded the opening of the Roseburg Spectrum office.
A few years later, Derrick became a leader in the industry by volunteering to work in Haiti fabricating artificial arms and legs. He trained local Haitian Prosthetists in patient care protocols and follow-up care.
In 2011 Derrick was elected to the Oregon Orthotic Prosthetic Association’s Executive Board. One year later he was invited to serve as the Oregon State Representative for the American Orthotic Prosthetics Association. Derrick has accelerated and completed many technologically advanced courses including Marlo Ortiz Transfemoral socket design, Advanced Microprocessor knee courses, Myoelectric Certification Courses, RCR Transtibial socket design, Ortho Management of Deformational Plagiocephaly and elevated vacuum socket designs.
On top of all this tekkie madness, Derrick fosters a warm and caring environment for the office. He strives to create a homey feel office SOMETHING to facilitate foremost technologies and SOMETHING to optimize functional outcomes.
In his off time, Derrick loves the outdoors, participating in as many triathlons as he can get his “feet” on, mountain bike races and ultra running. Over this past summer, he just completed the Pine to Palm run which is a 100 mile run from Williams to Ashland with over 20,000 feet of climbing, and he also completed a 120 mile Trans-Rockies run in Colorado! Derrick is married and has three children, all of which follow in their parents footsteps as athletes!
